Als Kunsthistorikerin empfinde ich so "schön" und fehlerlos restaurierte Architekturdetails immer als steril und unbelebt, weil ich ihnen die Jahrhunderte gelebter Geschichte nicht mehr ansehen kann. Doch anderseits ist es schön, die ursprüngliche Pracht zumindest ansaztweise wieder zu sehen.

Speaking from the art historian's point of view, I feel such restored details always to be rather cold and sterile, because I'm missing the centuries of history the originals lived through. On the other hand it's nice to see the original splendour at least in some way, even if the love the original carver put into it is no longer present.
